American Red Cross Learn To Swim
The JCC’s aquatics programs are based on the principles and methods established by the American Red Cross which is
progressive; each skill builds on the skills mastered in the previous level. It’s important and necessary to successfully
complete each level in progression. Progress reports are handed out at the end of every session informing parents which skills
were accomplished, which need continued practice, and a recommendation for subsequent enrollment levels. All lessons are
taught in the Peck Aquatic Center on the JCC campus in White昀椀sh Bay. We realize that there are schedule changes and situations that
may cause you or your child to miss a class, but to ensure a quality experience for both your child and the other children in classes, the JCC
does not allow make-up lessons or provide credits or refunds for missed or canceled classes.

Pre-school Age Aquatics • Ages 3 -5 yrs
Our preschool-age aquatic classes are structured with each 30-minute lesson combining skill instruction and fun. To ensure a quality
and safe lesson, there is a ratio of one instructor to a maximum of 昀椀ve students.
Pre-School Level 1
Pre-School Level 2
Pre-School Level 3
An introduction to basic aquatic skills in a
safe, supportive environment. Participants
build comfort in the water while learning
basic movements, beginning water safety
concepts, and positive aquatic habits that
support future swimming progression.
Participants will develop foundational
aquatic skills through increasing independence, aquatic locomotion, and greater
con昀椀dence across longer distances and
depths. Focus is placed on exploration
of simultaneous and alternating arm/leg
actions on both the front and back. Water
safety concepts introduced in Pre-School
Level 1 are expanded upon.
Swimmers will improve independency and
pro昀椀ciency with previously learned skills.
Focus is placed on improved coordination
and control of arm and leg movements
– both simultaneous and alternating.
Additional water safety concepts are
introduced and reinforced.
