Dive into books that spark conversation, challenge ideas, and sometimes…get banned! Our
Banned Book Club meets twice a month for engaging discussions about thought-provoking
books and the reasons they’ve faced bans. No need to have 昀椀nished the book to join us
– just come ready to share your thoughts, listen to diverse perspectives, and engage in
conversations on the power of literature. Whether you’re an avid reader or just curious,
everyone’s voice is welcome as we unpack the issues and ideas that make these books
resonate!
This program is presented in partnership with the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.

Boys Aren’t Blue
George M. Johnson
In a racially divided Southern town, a young girl comes of age as her father,
a principal lawyer, defends a Black man falsely accused of a crime. Through
her experiences, she learns harsh truths about injustice, empathy, and
moral courage.
This powerful memoir-manifesto explores Johnson’s experiences growing
up Black and queer in America. Through deeply personal essays, Johnson
invites readers into a journey of identity, family, and resilience sparking
important conversations about acceptance, truth, and the courage it takes
